Milk allergy refers to the adverse reactions that involve one or more proteins of milk, whether the protein or casein group. This allergy is one of the most common problems of infants, because cow's milk is usually the first substance of a baby. Some other protein sources also may cause this allergy, when the baby grows up.
The common symptoms are diarrhea, nausea, abdominal cramps, eczema or hives and other problems involving the skin and vomiting.
Allergist or doctor has differentiated milk allergy symptoms in three unique types. In first type of symptoms, these are experienced by the patients very quickly after intake of small quantity of cow's milk. Theses symptoms appear on the skin as eczema or hives. The symptoms are with, or without respiratory and gastro-intestinal symptoms.
The second type of the symptoms in which, patient experiences them after consuming the cow's milk and quantity of milk is not large but sufficient in amount. In second type of symptoms the most common are diarrhea and vomiting.
In the third type of symptoms, patient experience allergy after large amount of milk consumption. In these patient experiences diarrhea with, or without respiratory and skin reactions symptoms.
Treatment of Milk Allergy and Diagnosis
Allergist or doctor first determine milk allergy by different test on the basis of skin-prick examinations and several laboratory tests, also including blood test. To find out this allergy doctor try to eliminate milking product one at a time to detect the main cause of the problem.
As treatment part if doctor determine main cause of allergy is milk, child have to stop cow's milk intake especially if the symptoms appeared of this allergy.
Sometimes you can easily find out this allergy to adult or older children, when an adult quickly experience symptoms after eating milk-based foods. But, the diagnosis for adults and older children condition is difficult because milk-based foods and drinks are usually consumed with other kinds of foods.
As a treatment parts try to avoid any products that may be the cause of the problem. But avoiding milk products can be difficult because several food items have hidden milk proteins. This allergy using medicines will not cure this condition. Since, it is important that a professional dietician supervise your treatment.
